NO SHOW DISMAY FOR BABIES COMPETITION
ORGANISERS of a bonnie baby competition in Erskine are urging local parents to come forward and get involved.
The hardworking members of Erskine community council attempted to stage the competition last Wednesday but it turned out to be a no-show.
Council member Sam Coulter, said: 'I was really disappointed that parents didn"t bring their kids along because it is supposed to be a community event.
'The community council works hard to get local people together and it would be nice if we got a better response.'
However, fellow council member Janet Carson admitted that a lack of publicity in the area combined with families being away on their summer holidays contributed to the poor turnout.
Babies from neighbouring nursery, Carli"s Kindergarten were ready with their sunniest smiles, but staff thought it unfair not to have any other children in the running for the top title.
The town"s lighthearted competition has been running since 2002 and has been a popular feature of community life.
Local councillor Iain Nicolson is also encouraging people to support the event.
He said:
'I know the competition has been running for a good number of years and I know lots of people who enjoy reading the Gazette and picking their favourites.
'Its great fun for all the parents who compete and for all the readers'
Erskine"s cutest kid will not only be featured in the Gazette but also get to take home a prestigious trophy.
The cup was donated to the event by Hughes Chemists, formally of Bridgewater.
If you would like your baby to be crowned the bonniest in the town, come along to the Old Farmhouse in Park Mains on Wednesday September 10 at 2pm.
The competition is open to babies aged between three and 12 months.
