Tackling Pest Control at Home

If you have a problem with pest control at home, you will know how the presence of certain little uninvited creatures in your dwelling can drastically alter your domestic experience.

Suddenly, it is impossible to relax - whether you are worried about spotting mice at meal times, or you are expecting bugs in the bath. You might be concerned about how an infestation will affect your health, or wondering whether your property is going to need expensive repairs, as a result.

The important thing is to realise that pest control at home is achievable, and there are a range of strategies you can adopt, depending on the scale of your problem, your capabilities and your budget.

If you have a problem with a creature that can be dangerous in large numbers - such as wasps - it is definitely best to call in the experts. Removing wasps' nests is not a job for an amateur.

You have the option of using a private firm, but you might also like to check up on the range of services provided by your local authority - and the rates they charge for them - so you can make a choice, based on price and flexibility.

By contrast, there are other sorts of pests that can more easily be eradicated using DIY means. Take a look at the range of products available in your local hardware store - you will find items promising to get rid of rats, mice, fleas, moths, ants and more.

You might want to look at several different DIY approaches to tackling your pest. There is the possibility of using humane traps for rodents, for instance.

If moths are the problem, and you don't like the smell of mothballs - or don't fancy breathing in the chemicals they contain - you might want to stash cedar blocks in your drawers and cupboards, to repel them.
