Renfrew Burgh Band has been awarded £600 by Glasgow Airport’s Flightpath Fund to help it purchase some new equipment to ensure it can continue entertaining audiences across in its home town and in engagements across the country.

David Hoey, chairman of Renfrew Burgh Band, said: “We are delighted to have been successful in our application to the Flightpath Fund. The band regularly plays in the local community and in areas within the flightpath and has a busy programme of events over the next few months.

“Renfrew Burgh Band works closely with local agencies and is keen to further develop its relationship with the airport and other local bodies. We look forward to working hard during the Christmas season and beyond to continue to entertain the people of Renfrewshire.” The award comes after the band, current third section Scottish champions, represented Scotland at the recent National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in Cheltenham. Under the baton of Musical Director Mark Good, Renfrew came sixth and finished as the highest placed Scottish band in its class as it continued its successful year on the competitive stage.

Renfrewshire councillor Iain Nicolson, who sits on the Flightpath Fund committee, said: “This £600 grant from the Flightpath Fund will be used to purchase new equipment for Renfrew Burgh Band which I’m sure will be put to good use.

“The Flightpath Fund continues to support projects across Renfrewshire, Glasgow and East and West Dunbartonshire, giving grants to community groups and organisations working in three areas – education, employment and the environment.

“We look forward to working with Renfrew Burgh Band and to hearing more about its progress in due course.” The band is continuing with a busy schedule of concerts and competitions, including a winter concert in Neilston Parish Church, Neilston, on Sunday, November 15 at 2.30pm. Also featuring at the event will be performers Rachel and Matthew Hynes. Tickets cost £5 or £1 for children and are available from choir members at the church, Renfrew Burgh Band or at the door.
