YOUNGSTERS at Fordbank Primary in Johnstone enjoyed a blast to the past at their as they celebrated the school’s 50th anniversary, writes Laura Forsyth.

Marking this important milestone, the kids hosted a Back To The Future-themed day which saw the kids dress in their best vintage garms.

Fordbank Primary School originally opened in 1966 in Little Corseford in Johnstone.

The new school was completed in July 2007 and occupies the same site as the previous building.

The entire school got involved in the anniversary and sang modern and 60s songs with a Fordbank twist with words changed to reflect the school.

The lyrics from the Beatles’ classic song Yellow Submarine were altered to ‘we all love Fordbank it’s the best school in the town’ by P1-P4 pupils.

This was followed by Hairspray hit Welcome to the 60s which was very fitting with their flicked eyeliner and hippy bandanas.

Senior pupils also performed an adapted version of Lukas Graham hit Seven Years and History by One Direction but altered the words about making their parents proud and achieving their dreams.

Photos of the school from years gone by were displayed on the screen of staff and pupils as well as the transformed building.

A Back To The Future-themed video by pupils Scott Margery in P3 and Kiera McLuskie in P4 was also shown to the school.

Scott, who had temporary grey dyed hair for the occasion played headteacher Tom McCormick and Kiera donned a curly blonde wig to play depute head Carol McCormick.

Sporting Tom’s tie, Scott played the role of the headteacher well, looking back on the good memories of the school in the hilarious skit.

Headteacher Tom McCormick said: “As the school officially opened in 1966 we decided to have a special 50th assembly which all the boys and girls took part in.

“There was a great mix of songs with a Fordbank twist and photos from past decades displayed on the screen.

“Amey, the school’s facility managers are also making a donation to create commemorative mugs to be issued later in the term to all of the pupils which should be a nice memento.

“The video from Scott and Kiera was great, looking into the past and fast forwarding into the future.

“Scott played the part of me well with his dyed grey hair and I even let him keep my tie afterwards.

“It’s been a great few years and the day was the perfect way to look back on the memories of the school.”
