Three green community projects in Renfrewshire have been awarded new funding.

The money amounts to over £1,700 and comes from from the Central Scotland Green Network (CSGN) Community Project Fund.

Supported by the Greggs Foundation and the Central Scotland Green Network Trust (CSGNT), it has provided one-off grants of up to £1,000 to support small-scale initiatives and to foster community engagement in maintaining and enhancing the local environment.

Groovy Gardeners, based at Kilbarchan Primary School, has been awarded £500 to support the afterschool club in developing a Wildlife Wonderland within an area of the school grounds.

The club is working with the local community and partners to encourage thriving wildlife, and has approached local businesses to engage with the project.

The Wildlife Wonderland will be accessible to children and the community seven days a week.

Castle Semple Conservation Group has been awarded £889 of funding to provide equipment for a safe, accessible environment for green woodworking within the country park.

Events will be held throughout the year where the public can learn about traditional woodland skills.

Kilbarchan Improvements Projects has been awarded £388.40 for its Trees of the Track initiative.

The funding will be used to create leaflets for distribution with details on local cycle tracks and walks and information on the trees which can be found there.

Keith Geddes, Chair of the Central Scotland Green Network Trust, said: “The CSGN Community Project Fund aims to support local groups in delivering the CSGN vision on the ground.

“The standard of applications to this year’s fund was fantastic and we have awarded the grants to a wide range of greenspace activities right across the central belt, from projects supporting outdoor learning and natural play to those promoting community growing and biodiversity.

“Small-scale local initiatives like are instrumental in achieving our goal of creating a high-quality green network across central Scotland to improve the quality of life for local communities.”
