MASKED robbers brandishing tools smashed into a family run convenience store in Elderslie during a late night raid.

Jim's Food and Wine in the village's Stoddard Square was targeted by five thieves who snatched cash and boxes of cigarettes during the robbery.

The group were caught on CCTV using a tool to force open the roll of shutters and break through the window on Friday, June 24 at 3.17am.

Once the thieves had entered the shop, they grabbed cigarettes and cash from the till before fleeing the scene.

A total of £250 was taken from the cashier and boxes of cigarettes were nicked during the break in.

Inspector Cassie Glass said: "A group of five people with their faces covered were caught on CCTV breaking into the shop.

"Using a tool and bodily force they managed to break past the shutters and through the shop windows.

"Two of the group went inside the shop while three stayed outside during the incident.

"They all had their faces covered so we have not got any further description of them at the moment.

"Someone in the community must know these people and we are appealing for anyone who may have more information.

"Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious at this time is asked to call the police on 101."
