AFTER an absence of four years, Howwood Village Fete Working Group saw the reintroduction of the traditional village event.

Youngsters and families revelled in a range of activities at Howwood Primary school, enjoying all the traditional elements of the fete.

This included a bouncy castle, tea, cakes and a wide range of stalls which sold everything from sweets to candles.

Keeping the crowds fuelled was a burger bar, beer tent and ice cream stall.

There was also a tombola, raffle, bottle stall, beat the goalie, pony rides, nail art and face painting.

Bowfield Country Club and Hotel, Johnstone Sports Hub and Renfrewshire Leisure were also on hand to provide fun and games.

A real fire engine also kept the young ones entertained.

Event organiser Lorna Poole said: "This was the first time the event was run by the community and it was a great success.

"Girl guides, scouting groups and the bowling club were among the groups who worked hard to bring the event together, with help from the community council.

"It was great for them as they took ownership of their pitches and what they were allocated to do.

"There were lots of stalls, a tea room, games, bottle stall, tombola and a little tykes car rally.

"All the groups were raising cash from their stalls and money from the raffle was divided between them all.

"It was very busy despite the weather and it is the first time we have hosted it in a few years.

"Hundreds of people showed up, mainly families and it was a great day for all.

"We are planning on making it an annual event now and the groups will be free to run their own stalls.

"I would like to say a big thanks to everyone that helped organise it including Bill David and Linda Smith from the community council."
