FRIENDS of tragic holidaymaker Christopher Beattie have set up a crowdfunding appeal in order to bring his body home from Spain.

Christopher, 33, who stayed in Paisley, died at the weekend after falling from fifth floor apartment block in Ibiza.

It's understood he had been on a stag weekend when he fell 40 feet to his death in San Antonio.

Now a friend of Christopher, Sharon Kilcullen, has set-up a JustGiving page.

She hopes to raise £1000 so that the cost of returning Christopher's body can be met and his funeral can take place.

Yesterday morning, the appeal reached 53 per cent of its target with pledges totalling £530.

Sharon left this message to explain the reason for the appeal, saying: "Christopher Beattie was involved in a tragic accident whilst on holiday in Ibiza on Friday night.

"Because of the circumstances, this page has been set up to help bring Christopher home to his family before his final journey."

She added: "Feel free to help in anyway you can. Thank you."

The JustGiving page was also shared by Christopher's heartbroken girlfriend Lesley-Ann Langan, a store manager at Dorothy Perkins, who said on Facebook: "Please if you can help, help bring my babe home."

Lesley-Ann also paid tribute to her late boyfriend, adding: "It doesn't feel real and even though I never knew him that long I feel like my heart has been ripped out and shredded.

"My thoughts are with his family and I just keep expecting him to call or text.

"It's devastating that someone can just just disappear from your life in the blink of an eye."

The tributes continued to pour in from family members, including Christopher's brother Paul, who issued this statement: "Yesterday we got the devastating news that my brother Christopher Beattie passed away whilst on holiday.

"My dad, Claire, Niamh and I are totally heartbroken.

"Christopher was definitely a one-off and I can't believe I will never see him again."

Paul, who also shared the crowdfunding appeal on Facebook, added: "Rest in peace Chris. Mum will look after you now. Love you."

A spokesperson for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "We are providing assistance to the family of a British national who has died

in Ibiza, Spain."
