HUNDREDS of people have backed a Dumbarton woman online for condemning First Bus and their drivers for "acting as if they own the roads."

Stephanie Hamilton from Dumbarton posted an image to Facebook showing a driver apparently refusing to reverse "at most ten feet" on a busy road to allow her to drive past.

Hamilton wrote: "I am totally disgusted and sick of your bus service in Dumbarton acting as if they own the roads.”

She said the ”bully” driver was “shouting and balling”, switched off his engine and expected her to reverse down a full street.

Hamilton claims one passenger left the bus in frustration at the driver's stubborn behaviour.

A First Glasgow spokesperson said: "We train and expect our drivers to maintain the highest standards of behaviour and courtesy to other road users.

"We have been made aware of the incident and are looking into it further."

Commenting on the post on First Bus' social media page, which received nearly 200 likes and 30 shares, another Facebook user said the same thing happened to her on this street and she was forced to reverse past nine parked cars and kids playing in the street.

Ellen Kelly added: “They think they own the roads....I had the same kind of experience on that road. You're right to stand up to them. Infuriating.”

Cheryl Liddell also wrote: “He shouldn't have been in the position requiring him to reverse then.

“I assume he does this route often so would know how busy the road is so should be driving at an adequate speed, 10mph, to stop and hold back when required to do so because his side of the road is obscured, so oncoming traffic has priority.

“If he was doing this he would have seen Stephanie's car coming and could have waited to the side which you can clearly see is free to the right of the photo.”
