A MAN has died after being struck by a train at Bishopton station.

The 50-year-old from Glasgow was hit by the train at around 4.30pm on Thursday, August 18.

Commuters were faced with major delays following the incident which police are not treating as suspicious. 

Scotrail suspended train services between Glasgow Central and Gourock and Wemyss Bay following the incident.

Passengers faced lengthy delays and cancellations while emergency services dealt with the situation. 

Replacement buses were running and train tickets were being accepted on McGill's buses between Paisley and Gourock and Wemyss Bay.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "We were called at around 4.30pm to Bishopton to reports that person had been struck by a train.

"We attended alongside local ambulance colleagues however the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and we will be preparing a file for the Procurator Fiscal.

"The family have been informed."
