KEEN bowlers Fay and Edward Hosie are looking forward to rolling out the celebrations for their diamond wedding anniversary.

The Howwood couple will reach their 60th anniversary on September 22 and are hosting a party later on in the week.

They were married in Cathcart South Parish Church, Glasgow and moved out to Johnstone when Edward took a job with the John Laing Group.

When asked what the secret to making a marriage last 60 years is Fay, jokingly replied: “Quarrel every day.”

In truth, she doesn’t know what it is that does the trick.

She said: “I don’t really know, time passes so quickly. It’s wonderful to get to 60 years though.”

Both Fay, 82 and Edward, 80 have been members of bowling clubs throughout their life.

Fay being champion of Midton bowling club in Howwood for 11 years and Edward having three championships under his belt.

Edward has also been the Scottish area coach for bowls for 40 years at the Midton Bowling Club.

They have played at clubs all over Renfrewshire and enjoyed over 40 years of bowling together.

Things became more difficult for the pair however when Fay was registered as blind earlier this year.

She said: “It was difficult at first but you get used to it. I get the talking books and have the newspapers sent to me.”

She now attends an indoor bowling club where she participates in blind bowling but still regularly spends time at the Midton Club.

Although Fay and Edward have had trouble with Fays deteriorating sight, they have stayed strong together and worked to make things easier. They remain proud of their three children Evelyn, 58, Alan, 56, Elaine, 54 and five grandchildren and look forward to celebrating their anniversary with a party at Midton Bowling Club.
