POOCHES are invited to a spooktacular Halloween Dog Fun Day - with doggie costumes, canine themed stalls and shows to get involved in.

The Royalheart Greyhound Rescue are joining forces with Animal Support and Rescue to present the fun filled day.

Dogs and humans are invited along to Mid Gavin Equestrian Centre, next to Mid Gavin nursery in Howwood on Saturday, October 29 from 10.30am to 4pm.

Classes and competitions will be running throughout the event with plenty of trophies, sashes, rosettes and prizes to be won.

Fancy dress is strongly encouraged for both humans and pooches, in keeping with the Halloween theme.

Last year's event saw canines dressed in a fantastic array of costumes including butterflies, clowns and even a nun.

For pooches who love to shop, accessories will come from Pawz and Hoofs, while Petshop Postie will be offering special dog food to purchase.

Other stall holders include Flying Fleeces for Podenco Rescue and Debbie Burley for toys and there will a selection of dog crafts.

Houndstoothchic, Sporting Dogs and Cats Protection will also host their own stalls on the day.

Guests can get involved in face painting and there will be a fun photo booth for camera ready animals and owners.

Pooches can also have a go at agility racing and owners can watch a demonstration of obedience.

Competitions will be running throughout the day and divided into a range of categories such as pedigree puppy, toy, hound, pastoral, utility, terrier, working, gundog and veteran.

The Halloween show will also host contests for best fancy dress, party trick, handsome boy, prettiest girl, best rescue, waggiest tail, most like to take home, crossbreed veteran and crossbreed puppy.

All pooches entering will receive a prize while the overall best in show will snap up a pet hamper.

Fundraiser for The Royalheart Greyhound Rescue, Lesley Roberts anticipates that this year's Halloween spectacular will be just as busy as the last.

She said: "We hosted last year's show in Greenock and it was a fantastic success, we managed to raise £2,000.

"This year, guests and their animals are encouraged to dress up in costumes again and there will be lots of stalls to browse.

"There will be crafts, dog clothes, Christmas treats and other fun stalls to check out on the day.

"In particular, the photobooths for animals and their owners was very popular as they could both dress up in fun costumes.

"Some guests are very extravagant, but overall it is fantastic to see so many people getting into the spirit of the day."

Entrance fee for guests is £2 for adults and £1 for kids. It costs £1 per class for those who wish to enter a dog into a competition.

There are still spaces for stallholders and a pitch costs £10 which is payable by Paypal, cheque or cash on the day.
