FIREFIGHTERS have battled a large blaze at a house-building site in the Spateston area of Johnstone.
Fire engines and around 15 firefighters were reportedly called to the fire on Beith Road just after 7pm on Sunday, October 23.
Images uploaded onto social media by passers-by show flames engulfing around six homes at the Persimmon Homes site.
One video clip posted by user Sam Wright shows a firefighter frantically working to bring the flames under control.
It is understood there were no casualties and that the blaze was finally brought under control at around 10pm.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Firefighters arrived within four minutes and discovered a block of four, two-storey timber framed houses under construction well alight.
“At the height of the incident, there were 15 firefighters and an aerial rescue platform in attendance.
“They tackled the fire using three main jets and it was extinguished at 9.50pm.”
The fire service confirmed there were no casualties and added that firefighters ensured the area was made safe before leaving the scene at 10.12pm.
