POLICE have warned that reports of house break-ins and thefts could increase during the Christmas countdown.
Two properties in Johnstone and Renfrew were targeted this week, which saw expensive jewellery snatched from a home.
At 6.25pm yesterday, six men broke into an address in Paisley Road in Renfrew and ransacked several rooms.
The crooks managed to force open the back door and made off with a large quantity of jewellery.
Police have still to determine the value of the theft and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Between Monday at 5.30pm and Tuesday at 10.45pm, a shed in Johnstone's Floors Street was also broken into.
A padlock on the garden shed was cracked open however nothing was taken from inside.
Inspector Cassie Glass, who is based at the Johnstone police station said: “”We are expecting more of these types of crimes in the lead up to Christmas.
“These are opportunists so reports of break ins are likely to continue at this time of year.
“I'd like to remind residents to keep their homes locked and be careful about security.
“Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious for both these crimes should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
