STAFF and pupils at St Margaret’s Nursery in Johnstone loved their Christmas fair so much they held it twice.

More than £1,000 was raised from the event, with 10 per cent being donated to St Vincent’s Hospice.

Deputy head teacher Moira Hepburn said members of the Parent Council, which organised the fair, were still counting donations.

“We had an absolutely wonderful day which was well attended,” she added. “We raised over £1,000 and that figure should rise when the final total is in.

“I want to thank members of the Parent Council for all of their hard work.

“Thanks should also go to the pupils who made such wonderful gifts, including Christmas decorations, which were snapped up by those who came along.”

The fundraising fun was split into two events – one in the morning and another in the afternoon – to accommodate the 125 pupils at the nursery.

A host of seasonal stalls were set up, offering all manner of festive goodies, and a real highlight for the children was a visit from Santa, who welcomed them at his grotto.

Ms Hepburn said: “We have been speaking with the pupils about helping others and they agreed that a portion of the money raised should go to St Vincent’s Hospice.

“The rest will probably be spent on outdoor equipment and perhaps a trip next year.”
