A VIOLENT thug who sparked an armed siege with police after they went to his home to arrest him has been jailed.

Philip Dierikx, 35, lost his temper the plot when officers arrived at his flat a short time after he had left court.

Officers had gone to the home he shared with pregnant girlfriend Natanya Feeley, 22, in Caledonia Street, Paisley, on August 2 last year to arrest him for a separate matter.

When he realised the police were there to arrest him, Dierikx began to shout and swear.

He told officers: “I’m no’ comin’ out, so you can f*** off. This is f****** harassment.”

Dierikx continued making threats towards officers for over an hour.

When back-up arrived, he continued to refuse to leave his home, shoved a kitchen knife through the letterbox and bawled: “F****** come through the door and youse are getting it. I’m gonna stab myself then youse.”

Officers eventually managed to calm Dierikx down and he left the flat and was arrested.

He was taken to a police station, where he again kicked off – threatening to stab officers, other criminals and people on the street once released.

The father-of-three previously pleaded guilty to two charges of breaking the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act by behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

He admitted shouting and swearing at officers, threatening to stab them, stabbing the door of his flat and plunging a kitchen knife through the letterbox after they had looked through it in a bid to arrest him.

Dierikx also admitted a second charge of shouting, swearing and threatening violence at the police station after he’d been arrested.

Sentence on Dierikx – who has children kids aged 15, six and four and is due to become a father again soon –- was deferred for him to be assessed by social workers and a psychiatrist and he returned to the dock on Monday to learn his fate.

Defence solicitor Eamonn McGeehan said a psychiatrist had assessed Dierikx as suffering from a mental illness but had been “unable to link his actions to his mental disorder.”

Mr McGeehan pointed out that another psychiatrist had said Dierikx was suffering from a mental disorder at the time, so it could not be ruled out.

He added that Dierikx lost his temper on the day in question as he knew nothing about the warrant the police were there to arrest him on.

The lawyer said: “Ironically, his plea of not guilty [to that case] was accepted.”

Sheriff David Pender ruled there was only one way he could deal with Dierikx and jailed ncaged him for 32 months for the offence, backdated to August, which is when he was first remanded in custody.

He also made him the subject of a Supervised Release Order, which will see him monitored in the community for 12 months once he is released from prison.

Dierikx was previously handed an eight-year prison sentence for a 25-hour armed siege with police which saw him attack officers with an axe and plunge a knife through a door.

That violent stand-off, which was almost identical to the one he was jailed caged for on Monday, took place in Johnstone Castle.

His girlfriend fled the property, just five miles away from the scene of his August clash, in terror with their then seven-week-old son.

Dierikx was high on drink and drugs when he attacked police officers with an axe, smashed an infrared camera fitted to a police dog sent in to find out where he was and plunged a knife through a door.

He also said he would shoot anyone who came to the flat, but was arrested when police rushed in and pinned him to his bed.

That siege, which took place in April 2001, also started after he was told there was a warrant for his arrest.

Dierikx had admitted breach of the peace and attacking a man with a meat cleaver at Paisley Sheriff Court for that siege but the case was referred to the High Court for sentencing.
