A FARM project which has introduced countless people to all creatures great and small is appealing for help to safeguard its future.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Lamont City Farm, which is staffed entirely by volunteers.

And the Erskine-based charity is in desperate need of financial support to meet its escalating running costs.

Lamont Farm treasurer Yvonne Elliot said: “This is our 40th anniversary year, so it is especially sad that we find ourselves in this situation.

“Things are always tougher in the winter as there are fewer visitors but we still need to find money to feed and care for the animals.

“We really need a helping hand or the future looks bleak.”

Lamont Farm has around 50 animals, ranging from donkeys to rabbits.

There are also more exotic creatures such as snakes and tarantulas.

Yvonne said an average feed bag for one of the horses costs around £10.

The farm, which was founded in 1977, attracts hundreds of visitors every weekend during the summer months.

Staff try to rehome as many animals as they can.

If a suitable home can’t be found for one of the animals, the team try to give it a home at Lamont Farm.

“We have many wonderful volunteers who give up their time and our weekend Kids Club is very popular, with around 40 members,” added Yvonne.

“The children help by mucking out stables, doing feeds and caring for the animals.

“We would love to hear from anyone who can help us with donations or perhaps by adopting an animal.”
