PUPILS at Houston Primary have all the right ingredients for a new cookery project.
A grant from Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund has enabled the school to buy six compact ovens and wheeled storage trollies.
Houston is the largest primary school in Renfrewshire, with 567 pupils, including 80 at nursery level, and the project will see children of all ages learn basic cookery skills.
Nicki Barret, chair of Houston Primary’s Parent Council, said: “We are very grateful to have received this financial support.
“As well as learning basic cookery skills, the pupils will develop a greater understanding of where food comes from. This project also complements the school’s gardening club, which teaches pupils how to grow and harvest their own vegetables.
“They’ll now be able to prepare and cook their own vegetables, grown in the school, and gain a better understanding of how food goes from plant to plate.”
