A REDUCED speed limit has been introduced on a Paisley road following the tragic death of a young girl.
Motorists using the stretch of Gleniffer Road, near to Sergeantlaw Road, must now observe a 30mph limit, rather than 60mph.
In July last year, it was the location of a fatal road accident that claimed the life of five-year-old Paisley girl Niree Johnstone.
Thousands of people signed a petition, organised by Niree’s mother Cheryl, which called for a reduction in the speed limit there.
The petition was considered by Renfrewshire Council and, after talks with the police, a new road traffic regulation order was agreed.
Councillor Eddie Devine, convener of Renfrewshire’s Environment Policy Board, said: “Clearly, there was widespread local support for a change in the speed limit.
“The council has listened and responded to those concerns.
“I would like to thank the many people in the community who got involved in this issue and made the case for change.
“I particularly want to praise the efforts of Cheryl Johnstone, who has responded to an awful tragedy with dignity and a commitment to help her local community.”
