A PAISLEY woman is facing up to a year behind bars after banking tens of thousands of pounds in a benefits scam.

Danielle Wilson raked in £6,834 in income support and £13,883 in housing benefit and council tax support that she was not entitled to.

In total, she gained almost £21,000.

Wilson, who turns 30 on Thursday, raked in the cash while living in Newton Terrace between March 4, 2012, and April 1, 2015.

When the case against her was called at Paisley Sheriff Court this week, she pleaded guilty to two charges of breaching the Social Security Administration Act 1992.

The first charge she admitted stated she "failed to give prompt notification in the prescribed manner" to officials of the Department for Work and Pensions of changes in her circumstances, which she knew affected her entitlement to benefits, by not revealing she lived with her partner, William Syme.

And, by failing to tell the DWP she lived with him, she managed to receive thousands of pounds worth of income support she should not have got.

The second charge she admitted stated that she gained housing benefit and council tax she was not entitled to by failing to notify the DWP that she and Mr Syme lived together.

Sheriff Tom Ward deferred sentence until next month and called for background reports.

Wilson could be locked up for as long as 12 months when she returns to court to learn her fate.
