Detectives investigating a rape near an Elderslie primary school have appealed for help to trace three men who were seen in the area.

Extensive inquiries have been carried out since the frightening attack took place on a path between Byres Road and Glenmalloch Place on Monday, February 20.

The 27-year-old victim was approached from behind by the rapist, who struck her, causing her to fall over, before subjecting her to a serious sexual assault.

Detective Inspector Louise Harvie said: “There are three men that officers wish to trace as they were seen in the area near to where the incident took place and may have seen the suspect or unwittingly witnessed something vital to this investigation.

"I would urge them to come forward and speak to police.

“The first man was seen in Stoddard Square, Elderslie, around 8pm on Sunday, February 19 or Monday, February 20. He is described as between 30 and 50 years of age and was wearing dark trousers and a light top.

“The second man was seen near to the Wallace Monument, in Main Road, Elderslie, around 8.15pm on Februrary 20. He is described as in his 30s, 5ft 10ins in height and of stocky build, with short dark hair and clean shaven. He was wearing dark trousers and a dark Parka-style jacket.

“The third man was seen near to the Wallace Monument around 1.10am on Tuesday, February 21. He is described as 30 to 40 years of age, of broad build and was wearing dark jeans, a black jacket and white trainers."

The attack took place near to Wallace Primary and police have visited the school to reassure staff and pupils.

Officers have also been searching for the victim’s trousers, which were removed by the rapist, who is described as white, between 35 and 50 years of age and of medium to stocky build, with dark hair that is receding on top.

At the time, he was wearing dark trousers and a light-coloured t-shirt.
