PAISLEY and District Scouts have received a donation to fund first aid training for 80 youngsters.

The £1,000 donation from family housebuilder Mactaggart & Mickel Homes’ Building Communities Fund will benefit youngsters across Paisley, Barrhead and Neilston who attend Scout groups.

It will cover the cost of learning resources, first aid training equipment and a defibrillator for use in the community.

Such training is a vital part of the Scouts’ education programme, delivered by volunteers to equip young people with life skills to help them succeed and make valuable contributions to their community.

The Building Communities Fund was created as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to help organisations and projects which enhance the lives of people within their communities.

The fund is open all year to applications from charities, community groups, sports teams and schools within a five-mile radius of any live Mactaggart & Mickel Homes development like Midton Fields in Howwood.

Alyson Sweeney from Paisley and District Scouts added: “A big thank-you to Mactaggart & Mickel Homes for this donation which will have such a positive impact.

“The training will be invaluable for our members and we’ve also earmarked funding to buy a defibrillator, first aid kits, training materials and first aid demonstration mannequins.”

Alan Hunter, Head of Construction at Mactaggart and Mickel added: “First aid training is an essential life skill and it is great to see the funding go towards such a worthwhile cause which will not only benefit the Scouts but also the community.

“As a family housebuilder we understand the value of investing in young people and their future skills, and we are proud that our Building Communities Fund allows us to help organisations like the Scouts enrich young people’s lives and give them opportunities to succeed.”
