A YOB hurled a mother-of-four’s television out an upstairs window during a blazing Mother’s Day row.

Alex Williamson, 33, fell out with his girlfriend at her home in Paisley on Sunday, March 26.

And, rather than taking his frustration out on her, he grabbed her TV and flung it out the window of her home – sending it crashing to the ground in her garden.

He was arrested over the offence and held in custody overnight before admitting his guilt when he appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday, March 27.

Williamson, of Oakbank Drive, Barrhead, pleaded guilty to breaking Section 38(1) of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010 – by acting aggressively, refusing to leave his girlfriend’s home when asked to do so and then throwing her TV out of the window.

The court heard the drama began the night before when Williamson and his girlfriend, who have been together for about a year, went to a friend’s party in the Thornliebank area.

They began arguing at the party and the girlfriend left to go home and they next saw each other the following morning when he went to her home in Paisley’s St Ninian’s Road.

Procurator Fiscal Depute John Penman, prosecuting, explained: “Police were called at 11am on Sunday to the home address of [the girlfriend]. She thought he had stayed out whole night and both started to argue.

“The argument escalated to the point of him throwing a TV set out of an upstairs front window.

“[His girlfriend] and his mother repeatedly asked him to as to leave as he was upsetting both of them and the kids who were present. He refused and the witness phoned the police. Police officers were asked to attend and did so – and found a damaged and smashed TV lying out in front garden.”

Defence solicitor Jamie McNair said: “The key part of my friend’s narration is the perception on the part of the complainer that Mr Williamson had stayed out the entire night. They were arguing and she left the party earlier.

“He went to his mum’s home as he didn’t want to return to her house.

“He went to his mum’s home and then his sister’s before going to [his girlfriend’s]. She perceived he had stayed out all night. His position is she was slapping him and he took his frustration out on the TV instead of her. He wishes the relationship to continue and his understanding is [she] wants the relationship to continue.”

“There are four kids within the home, they are [her] kids from a previous relationship.”

After hearing that Williamson promised to replace the TV, Sheriff Robert Fife opted not to sentence him until later in the year – and told him how he ultimately deals with him will depend on whether or not he breaks the law again in between.

He explained: “I’m going to defer sentence for a period of six months for you to be of good behaviour.

“If you’re of good behaviour I’ll deal with the case leniently.”

Williamson is set to return to the dock in September to learn his fate.
