TOM Arthur, MSP for Renfrewshire South, met with local Cancer Research ambassador, Andrew Couttie, to discuss the current policy aims of Cancer Research UK.

Mr Arthur who is a member of the Health and Sport Committee, was interested to hear about the charity’s call for further restrictions on known causes of cancer, such as tobacco.

Mr Couttie is one of Tom’s first constituents to meet him in his new constituency office on 49 High Street, Johnstone.

Ambassadors for Cancer Research UK work on a voluntary basis, with the charity’s current policy campaign, Scale Down Cancer, which seeks to tackle obesity through a range of measures, such as restrictions on multi-buy discounts on unhealthy food.

Commenting on the meeting, Mr Arthur said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to meet with Andrew and learn more about Cancer Research UK’s current work.

“I was particularly pleased to discuss ways in which we can tackle the preventable causes of cancer, such as poor diet, alcohol and tobacco.

“We can all reduce our risk of cancer through simple changes to lifestyle. I congratulate both Andrew and all Cancer Research UK Ambassadors on their work and look forward to continuing to support them.”
