DOZENS of keen and green bowlers rolled up at the new-look Robertson Park Bowling club for a chance to try the sport for themselves.

The sun was shining as families and current members gathered for the free session, which also showed off the club’s new facilities after a £36,000 refurbishment

The Renfrew outfit recently reopened after the extensive works were carried out during the close season, which included new playing facilities and artificial banking installed on both greens.

The try bowls day invited members of the public of all ages and abilities to test out the game throughout the day.

Children enjoyed a mini version of the sport, while there were hot drinks and refreshments available in the clubhouse to keep guests fuelled.

Those who fancied taking their interest further were also offered a trial membership for a small fee.

Chairman Jim Coyle told the Gazette: “It was a great day and we had a good turn out.

“Robertson Park Bowling Club have also joined the community sports hub and are starting an active schools campaign for the local schools.

“There will be pupils from Arkelston, St James, Kirklandneuk and Newmains Primary schools starting in May.

“Children will be well looked after as we will have fully qualified coaches in attendance at all times. Two sessions will take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and afternoons. We look forward to welcoming members to our newly improved club.”
