A FOOTBALL fan who was killed after being hit by a train has been described as a "twinkle in the eye" of his family and friends.

Christopher Fairley, 20, died after walking onto the line near Milliken Park station in his hometown of Johnstone.

His heartbroken girlfriend Amanda Moore, 23, told the Gazette: "Myself and Christopher's family will get through this together."

An online JustGiving appeal was launched to cover the funeral costs of the Celtic supporter and former Glentyan Thistle player.

Lauren Donnachie created the fundraising page to support the family of "a brilliant friend" who "put everyone before himself".

Writing on the JustGiving account, Lauren said: "Christopher was a loving care-free young man with his full life ahead of him.

"Christopher was such a thoughtful boy who always put everyone before himself.

"Brilliant son, brother, nephew, grandson and cousin but most of all a brilliant friend.

"He was for sure the twinkle in the eye of many people."

Another contributor to the page – which raised close to £3,000 in a matter of hours – posted their condolences.

Lisa Connor wrote: "I can't believe we have hit this already. He was so loved by all his family and friends.

"Thank you everyone for so much love and support at this difficult time.

"We are thinking about getting him a wee bench with some words on it up by the graveside so all his friends and family can come up and visit."

The ex-St Benedict's High pupil died at the scene shortly before 8pm last Wednesday, April 26.

His body was found after relatives launched an appeal.

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed officers had been called to an incident following reports of a person being struck by a train on the tracks between Milliken Park and Howwood.

He added: "BTP and ambulance attended, however a man was sadly pronounced dead.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the procurator fiscal."
