A CAMPAIGN launched by parents at a Bishopton school to provide a new playing field has been given a welcome cash boost from a building firm.

Each month, Persimmon Homes West Scotland selects two worthy causes to benefit from financial support under its Community Champions initiative.

And one of the latest recipients is Bishopton Primary’s Parent Council, which works with the school to create a close partnership between the pupils and the wider community.

Emma Livingstone, spokeswoman for the group, said: “One of our aims is to support the education and welfare of the pupils through fundraising.

“There is currently a large waterlogged and uneven piece of land within the school grounds which we would like to turn into an area which everyone can enjoy.

“The project would create a flat sports pitch with a surrounding running track and an outdoor seating and garden area, together with educational and play equipment.

“There are currently no such facilities for the pupils to enjoy and we’re delighted that our appeal is generating a lot of local support.

“We cannot thank Persimmon Homes West Scotland enough for being another organisation that has cared enough to support us.”

Doug Law, managing director at Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said he is happy the Parent Council will put the £1,000 donation to good use.

He added: “Every child should have the opportunity to enjoy sport and this appeal is exactly the kind of grassroots fundraising that we like to support.

“Persimmon Homes West Scotland has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions initiative and it is always difficult to pick a winner. If applicants have previously been unsuccessful, we urge you to visit our website and re-apply.”
