AN all-singing, all-dancing show has sailed into Eastwood Theatre this week, courtesy of the Eros Musical Society.

Anything Goes is running until Saturday and is sure to delight audiences with renditions of Cole Porter’s classic songs.

Included in the musical line-up are hits such as You’re The Top, I Get a Kick out of You, Blow Gabriel, Blow and the signature tune, Anything Goes.

The action takes place on the SS American cruise liner, which is leaving New York with an assortment of passengers on board.

Ian McAulay, who plays the ship’s captain, said: “The story involves everything from English lords and Wall Street tycoons to gangsters on the run, debutantes and gospel singers.

“Add in mistaken identities, sinners being saved and true love finding its way, all comically intertwined, and you have the complete entertainment package.”

The show was conceived by producer Vinton Freedley after the Wall Street crash of 1929.

Freedley started living permanently on one of the opulent cruise liners which became popular in the 1930s and, as he was permanently in international waters, it meant he could avoid paying any income tax.

Whilst Freedley was offshore, he came up with the idea of a musical set upon the ocean waves. After several plot changes and Noel Coward getting involved, Anything Goes was launched.

The show has been revised several times in the USA and filmed twice.

It has won many awards, both in Britain and in America, and is a popular choice for amateur productions.

Jon Cuthbertson is director for this latest production of Anything Goes, supported by Aileen Shaw as musical director and Kim McLaughlin as choreographer.

Eros Musical Society is now in its 53rd year and has previously staged shows such as Calamity Jane and Oliver.

There will be performances of Anything Goes at 7.30pm tonight, tomorrow, Friday and Saturday. There is also a 2.30pm Saturday matinee show.

Tickets are priced from £13 to £15 and can be booked online at www.erosmusicalsociety.co.uk.
