A Paisley woman turned into the 'Irn Lady' as she smashed up a pub and lobbed a can of juice at a barmaid.

Margaret Woods lost the plot in the Brewer's Tap, in Moss Street, Paisley, in October last year as she shouted and swore at staff before assaulting one worker with a can of Scotland's 'other national drink.'

The details emerged this week when 37-year-old Woods appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court to be sentenced for her antics.

She had earlier pleaded guilty to assaulting Georgina Trainer by hitting her with a can of soft drink and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and swearing at staff, making threats, brandishing a bar stool and acting aggressively.

Procurator fiscal depute Masooma Jaffri told the court: "She said to staff 'who are you talking to, you a*******? I'll wreck this place, I'll take youse all on - nobody is big enough to deal with me in here.'

"She then threw a can of Irn-Bru at the witness Trainer."

After Woods fled the scene, the matter was reported to police and she was detained the following day.

She made no comment when cautioned and charged.

Defence solicitor Kirsty McGeehan said Woods, who previously lived in Dundonald Road but was most recently living in Abercorn Street, was a tragic soul who had become a victim of her circumstances.

The lawyer added: "She found herself homeless and she turned to drink and drugs."

Ms McGeehan asked for Woods to be allowed her freedom and given the opportunity to continue with a Community Payback Order imposed in another case.

But Sheriff Susan Sinclair ruled there was only one way she could deal with Woods, jailing her for a total of 13 months.

As she did so, Sheriff Sinclair told her: "I need to sentence you for the Community Payback Order breach and I'm going to revoke the order.

"You did your best on the order, some bits went better than others, but it hadn't ended well.

"Because of your record and the nature of the offence, it's got to be a custodial sentence for you."
