THE Labour group on Renfrewshire Council has branded the SNP as ‘tartan Tories’ after the party voted with the Conservatives on a number of issues.
Cllr Derek Bibby, deputy leader of the Labour group, claims co-operation between the SNP and Conservatives that has handed the parties a majority on decision-making boards is “a coalition by any other name.”
Labour had previously run the council but lost power after winning just 13 seats at this month’s local authority elections.
Cllr Bibby said: “The SNP and the Conservative groups have failed to respect the will of the people of Renfrewshire.
“Despite the SNP being in a minority administration, they and the Tories voted together to give the SNP a majority on all policy and outside policies, despite only having 44 per cent of the seats.
“The move is a coalition by any other name.”
