Detectives are appealing for information following the death of a Kilmacolm woman.

At around 1.15pm on Friday, police were called to a flat in Kelburn Terrace, Port Glasgow, where the body of 47-year-old Karen Young had been discovered.

A post-mortem examination was carried out and the death is currently being treated as "unexplained."

Police said Karen was last seen by her son at her home in Kilmacolm at around 3.15pm last Thursday.

Detective Inspector Grant Macleod, from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Teams, added: “Extensive enquiries are underway to establish Karen’s movements between when she was last seen by her son and when she was found dead on Friday afternoon.

“Officers have also managed to establish that a woman, quite possibly Karen, was seen entering the flat in Kelburn Terrace around 8.30am on Friday.

“It is absolutely imperative that we account for Karen’s movements leading up to her death, which is currently being treated as unexplained, and members of the local community could prove vital in providing answers for her family.

“If you saw Karen at any point between 3.15pm on Thursday and 1.15pm on Friday, please get in touch to help us paint a picture of where she had been and who she had spoken to.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact officers from the Major Investigation Teams, based at Govan, via 101 and quote incident number 1616 of June 9. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where details can be given in confidence.”
