A VIOLENT yob has admitted battering his partner and leaving her mum scarred for life by hitting her with a baby gate.

Kevin McCann, 31, snapped after Christine Walker had watched his children so that he and her daughter, Linzi Ramsay, could go out for the evening.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard how McCann left both Ms Ramsay, 27, and 60-year-old Mrs Walker covered in blood.

Mrs Walker suffered a 12cm wound which will leave a permanent scar.

Violence flared after McCann and Ms Ramsay headed out on June 11 last year while Mrs Walker looked after their two children.

Once the couple returned to the flat in Rowan Street, Paisley, an argument between them erupted into violence, resulting in McCann attacking both women.

The details emerged last week when McCann appeared in the dock to admit his guilt over the assaults.

He agreed a deal with prosecutors which saw him plead guilty to two reduced charges.

McCann, of Calside Court, Paisley, admitted assaulting Ms Ramsay and leaving her injured by raining kicks and punches on her body.

He also admitted assaulting Mrs Walker by punching her on the head and body and hitting her with the baby gate.

Charges that he failed to appear for an identity parade and failed to appear at court, as well as claims that he had left Ms Ramsay scarred for life, thrown Mrs Walker to the ground and rained kicks on her head and body, were dropped.

Procurator fiscal depute Keri Marshall told the court both McCann and Ms Ramsay were “heavily intoxicated” when they arrived home from their night out.

A short time later, Mrs Walker heard sounds of a disturbance coming from the bedroom.

She saw her daughter cowering in the corner of the bedroom and McCann sitting on the bed.

It was stated that McCann then punched and kicked Ms Ramsay on the head and body.

Mrs Walker went to the kitchen, followed by her daughter, to phone the police but McCann chased after them and lashed out again.

The court was told McCann ripped a baby gate from the kitchen door and threw it at Mrs Walker, leaving her with a deep cut on her right leg.

He then grabbed a bag of clothes and fled the scene, managing to escape before police and paramedics arrived.

Both Ms Ramsay and Mrs Walker were taken to hospital for treatment.

Defence solicitor Gordon Ritchie said the attacks made McCann, who runs his own painting and decorating business, realise he had an alcohol problem - and prompted him to become sober.

He added that the couple had not seen each other since the incident but McCann has regular contact with their young children.

Sheriff Robert Fife called for background reports ahead of sentencing and adjourned the case until next month.

As he did so, he warned McCann he could be jailed for the offence, telling him: “All options will be available to the court.”
