HUNDREDS of sporty kids from a Renfrew school put their best foot forward for a good cause.

The primary three/four class at Newmains Primary organised a sponsored run for the school as part of an enterprise project.

There was also an opportunity for parents and carers to join children for the run at the King George V playing fields.

Class teacher Susan Gillon, who helped to organise the event, said: “Pupils in primary three to seven got involved in the charity run and, luckily, the weather was good right up until the final race.

“It was all part of an enterprise project called Runnerbeans, which involved the pupils thinking about how to raise cash in an inventive way.

“They all thought of a charity that meant a lot to them and voted on which one they wanted to raise funds for.”

A total of £930 was raised on the day and this will be split between the Alzheimer Scotland charity and funding for the school’s new outdoor classroom.

Everyone in the class played a part in organising the event in some way, from designing certificates and posters to participating in the race.

Ms Gillon added: “Not everyone had to be sponsored but they all had an input in some way.

“The P3s helped run the event in the morning, while the P7 class played their part later on.

“Parents and carers also came along to spectate and a small number even took part in the run themselves.

“Half of the funds will be donated to Alzheimer Scotland, while the rest of the cash will go towards the outdoor classroom.

“It is still early days but we are looking to promote outdoor learning and focus on nature.

“Overall, the day was a huge success and I’m glad that everyone who took part enjoyed themselves.”
