Saturday saw the sun come out and shine down on those who attended Bishopton Day.

Thousands of people attended the fun day and, with the many stalls and entertainment on offer, everyone had a very enjoyable afternoon.

As I made my way around the field with all the stalls set out, I was impressed by just how many people had come along to the event.

It was also great to see what a good job the volunteers had made of making it a huge success.

Saturday’s event came after the horrific London fire in which many people died. It was encouraging to see how people in the local community there came to the aid of those in need.

They saw others in distress and, without thinking twice, came out in their droves to assist in any way they could.

Thankfully, we haven’t had any local disasters on this scale but there was lots of community spirit being shown at Bishopton Day.

As I chatted with the stallholders, they were telling me they could do with more volunteers locally.

Yes, thousands may have turned out but your help would go a long way to help spread the load.

Jim Blair, chair of Bishopton Week, was telling me there are only six people on the organising committee, so he would love to hear from you to help with next year’s activities.

Give him a call on 01505 862961 to find out how you could do your bit.

Lindsay Cunninghame, president of the local Rotary Club, was telling me they would love to see more volunteers to help arrange events and fundraise for people less fortunate. His number is 0141 889 2318 and he’ll be happy to give you more details.

And, if sport is your thing, Bishopton Bowling Club is looking for new members. All you have to do is go along to the club or contact president Shirley Thomson.

Let’s not wait for a disaster to happen before we offer to give a helping hand.
