HEALTH champions took a bow at the Active Communities award ceremony.

The event was held at Johnstone Castle Community Centre to thank existing members and reach out to prospective new volunteers.

Active Communities deliver programmes across Renfrewshire to inspire people to become more active, promote health and wellbeing and empower people to change their lives.

The Johnstone-based charity runs physical activities, as well as community sport and health classes, supporting everyone regardless of age or ability.

However, it would not be able to deliver these services without its volunteers.

Hilary Valentine, community health co-ordinator at Active Communities, said: “It was a wonderful event, attended by a mix of volunteers, community partners and business partners.

“Local musician Zoe Smith played the guitar and our managing director Susan McDonald spoke about the work that we do.”

The group is in need of more volunteers and will stage an induction course next month for anyone who wants to get involved.

Prospective volunteers are asked to commit themselves to one hour a week over four to five weeks.
