POOCH power helped a charity to coin in hundreds of pounds as it staged a fundraising event at a Paisley pet store.

Volunteers from Royalheart Greyhound Rescue took part in a collection at the Pets at Home outlet at Abbotsinch retail park, where many shoppers were happy to make a donation.

Almost £300 was raised, which will be used to help Royalheart, which rescues dogs who face being put down, meet the costs of vet bills, food and transport.

Volunteers from Royalheart, which is based in Langbank, also brought their dogs to the Pets at Home store so they could meet shoppers and enjoy some extra attention.

Lesley Roberts, who is the charity’s lead fundraiser, said: “It was a weekend of fun and frolics and many people gave us donations, including £70 from Bishopton florist Morag Reid.

“All in all, the charity made just under £300, which is great.”

Royalheart was founded in 2009 and has since provided a better life to countless pooches.

The charity is keen to attract more recruits so it can continue its important work.

Lesley added: “We are looking for volunteers to dog walk, muck out kennels or to fundraise and we guarantee that anyone who joins us will love being part of the happy team of volunteers.

“We are also looking for foster families so that more dogs can be saved.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who is interested in fundraising or has any new ideas of how to generate more money for this small rescue charity.”
