A DOUBLE car theft in Linwood this week has sparked a police warning for drivers to keep keys well hidden.

Two cars were stolen by thieves overnight from Monday night into Tuesday morning in nearby parts of the town.

Crooks forced open a window on Berwick Crescent and snatched the keys, which allowed them to make away with the car.

The second happened on Richmond Drive, where the thieves smashed a window with a brick and grabbed the keys then drove away.

Both a Peugeot and a Fiat were taken during the overnight raid.

Police are following a positive line of enquiry after witnesses were able to give a description of the potential suspect.

However, police wish to get the message out warning residents to keep keys well out of sight to avoid potential thefts.

Speaking to The Gazette, Sergeant Alan Mack said: "Car owners should be vigilant and consider simple crime prevention measures to deter thieves.

"This includes keeping car keys safe and out of sight both in the home and when you are out and about.

"If you notice anyone behaving suspiciously around your car or property contact us on 101."
