OLD Firm football legends pulled on their boots again to help raise cash for a brave Renfrew toddler battling a rare form of cancer.

Layla Greene, of Kirklandneuk, was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma in March, a cancer which is found in less than 100 children in the UK each year.

The tot, who celebrated her third birthday last week, has now undergone eight rounds of chemotherapy.

She is set to have surgery, followed by radiotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.

Businesses across the town have backed the family - parents Louise Cunningham, 31, and David Greene, 30, and siblings Matthew, 12, and Robert, nine.

Sunday’s #teamlayla fundraiser, organised by John Plott of Renfrewshire United, saw Old Firm legends including Marvin Andrews, Rudi Vata, Bobby Petta, and Frank McAvennie return to the pitch.

Caitlin Scanlon, a family friend and #teamlayla spokeswoman told the Gazette: “Layla’s brothers Matthew and Robert were the mascots and walked the players out and her uncles played in the match.

“Layla was unable to make it though. She’s just had intense chemo last week and is suffering from painful mouth ulcers and an infection.”

Little Layla was able to come home for her birthday last week, enjoying a “brilliant” day with family and friends.

However, she is set to beginmore gruelling treatment again a week today.

A JustGiving page set up by a family friend in March has raised £1,900 to help make the family’s life easier looking after Layla.

Cash raised will go to living costs while the family are in and out of hospital and towards day trips for the boys to keep them active during the family’s difficult time.

Cash is still being counted from Sunday’s match, but it’s hoped it will help contribute to the cause.

It is also hoped that eventually when Layla is well enough, the family could go on a trip to Disneyland Paris together
