HUNGRY do-gooders will put their appetites firmly to the test while raising cash for charity at the same time.

Four determined members of staff from the Argos store at the Phoenix Retail Park, in Linwood Road, Paisley, are taking on a ‘Man versus Food’ challenge in aid of the Macmillan cancer charity.

They will each chow down on a gut-busting burger and a mountain of sides at the newly-opened Butchers Steak and Grill restaurant, in Elderslie.

The restaurant will be dishing up a whopping two-and-a-half kilos of meat, chips and onion rings, all washed down with sauce.

Heather Renicks, 25, Corrina Caldwell, 28, Scott McClements 28, and Gary McCartney, 25, are the peckish foursome who aim to clean their plates.

The team have been set a £500 fundraising target for the food challenge, which will take place on Tuesday, July 18.

Lynne Scott, charity champion at the Argos store, said: “The challenge is being created especially for the staff and the food is being donated free of charge by the restaurant.

“One of the team is a big eater but I think the other three might struggle.

“I thought of the idea when I was watching the Man v Food programme on television and thought it would be an interesting way to fundraise.

“We hope to get as many of the Argos team along on the day to cheer them on.”

Butchers Steak and Grill, in Main Road, is the sister venue to the award-winning Elderslie Butchers, in nearby Stoddard Square.

The menu includes dishes made from fresh meat straight out of Elderslie Butchers, including lamb, pork chops, ribs, chicken and beef.

Around 30 jobs have been created at the new eatery, with bosses keen to do their bit to support the community.

With this in mind, restaurant owner Gavin Colquhoun is happy to donate all the food for the Argos fundraisers, so that as much money as possible goes to charity.

He said: “This isn’t something we usually have on the menu - I don’t want to be responsible for an obesity epidemic in Elderslie.

“It’s all for a good cause though and I wish them lots of luck on the day.”

Anyone who would like to support Heather, Corrina, Scott and Gary can pop into the Argos store, where there are donation buckets and sponsorship forms in place.
