FUNDRAISERS at a Howwood hospice were bowled over after receiving a donation of more than £1,000 from a club’s charity day and cabaret night.

John G Fleming Bowling Club, in Houston, hosted its annual charity day and ladies bowls competition – raising £890.

But the fundraising didn’t stop there as a cabaret event raised a further £425, bringing the grand total to £1,315.

A spokesperson for the bowling club told the Gazette: “We would like to say a huge thank-you to all the members, to all the ladies from across Renfrewshire who participated in the bowls competition, to all the local people and local businesses who donated raffle prizes and home baking and to everyone who dug deep into their pockets and bought raffle tickets and home baking.”

Laura McDade, hospice fundraiser, added: “Everyone here would like to say a huge thank-you to John and Isabel Gilchrist from JG Fleming Bowling Club.

“We understand the amount of time and effort that it takes to put on an event of this kind and we truly appreciate all their hard work.”
