BISHOPTON Primary School has been helped to lay the foundations for a new outdoor space, thanks to a donation from a Scottish housebuilder.

Stuart Milne Homes pledged £1,000 to the school’s parent council for its plans to regenerate the external area within the school grounds – including a grass five-a-side football pitch, running track and outdoor classroom.

This new development hopes to inspire an encouraging place for outdoor learning and natural play.

Emma Livingstone, chairwoman of Bishopton Primary Parent Council, told The Gazette: “On behalf of Bishopton Primary Parent Council, I would like to thank Stewart Milne Homes for their generous donation.

“We have taken on a huge project this year and this contribution will go a long way to help us achieve our goal. The area we are developing will benefit so many people and I cannot wait for it to be completed.”

A garden area will be created and maintained by the children through class time and extracurricular activities, including a well-attended gardening club, and will help children learn to grow and reap fruits and vegetables, which can in turn be used to help develop basic life skills and encourage healthy eating.

The facilities aim to promote healthy lifestyles among the children and the wider community who will enjoy access outwith school hours.

Kevin Moreland, marketing manager for Stewart Milne Homes, said: “We are proud to be able to contribute to supporting the school in their plans to revitalise the outdoor space for all to enjoy.”
