RAIN didn’t dampen spirits at Brookfield’s annual Gala Day.

Anticipation was building from the moment the children’s fancy dress parade, led by two pipers from St Columba’s School, kicked off proceedings – with DJ Albee and the Clyde Road keeping events in the park on track.

Punters flocked to the ever-popular Pig Racing, while others bought or exchanged a bike at the Bike Swap courtesy of LEAP.

Revellers dispelled the bad-weather blues with a Prosecco or beer at the bar and tucked into Bratwurst and hotdogs in the hot food tent.

Even canines were catered for with delicious, home made all natural dog treats by Sistsers Kitchen.

The Brookfield Brass Necks, the village brass players, entertained with a selection of music, ranging from traditional brass band tunes to The Beatles and Queen.

The stalwart members of the Tuesday night Zumba class gave a demonstration of what they get up to at their weekly class, as did the dancers from Galaxy Houston.

Carol Biggin, of Brookfield Village Council, said: “Once again, Brookfield refused to be downhearted by rain and a wonderful day was had by all.

“This is our major fundraising event of the year and we wish to thank everyone involved for their time, effort and hard work, without which the day would not be possible.

“Additional thanks go to Gowanlea Nursery, JR’s Hairdressing in Bridge of Weir, Beaton Bros, Gibb Stuart, the Houston Inn and Dobbies for their generous donations.”
