YOUTHS are risking theirs and the lives of others by riding quad bikes on main roads and footpaths in Barrhead.

That is the view of police who have received a number of complaints from worried residents of the vehicles being driven on roads close to St Luke’s High throughout August.

While no major accidents or serious injuries have been recorded, officers have warned of the dangers of taking a quad bike onto public roads.

Sergeant Michael Morganthaler, based at Giffnock Police Station, said: “Over the last month we’ve received reports of youths riding quad bikes in the vicinity of Springhill Road and open areas near to St Luke’s High.

“We’re keen to identify who the users of these quad bikes are because the people doing this are putting themselves and other members of the public at danger when riding these bikes on public roads and footpaths.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
