CLUBBERS will have an extra hour’s drinking time on Fridays and Saturdays in Dumbarton town centre – after bosses at a nightclub got the green light to extend their licensing hours.

Cheers nightclub, in Brewers Lane, proposed to increase the amount of time they could sell alcohol by one hour on each night.

And the move now means clubbers can drink right up to 4am at the weekends.

As things currently stand the nightclub’s core licensing hours on Friday and Saturdays run until 3am.

But the application to extend their licensing hours was approved last Tuesday at a meeting of West Dunbartonshire Licensing Board.

The proposals were opposed from both Police Scotland and West Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership.

However, it was agreed at the meeting that the licence extension be approved for a six-month trial period and it will be reviewed next year.

The move is seen as a return to more “traditional” licensing hours in the town centre area. Over the years a number of establishments have enjoyed licensing hours as late as 4am.
