WITH just a couple of days to go before the round pound coin goes out of circulation, staff at Barnardo’s shops in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire are asking people to donate their old change to help vulnerable children.
The old pound ceases to be legal tender on Sunday but Barnardo’s shops in Linwood, Clarkston and Barrhead will be accepting them as donations.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond is urging people to look down the sides of their sofas and on their windowsills and give their pounds to Barnado’s.
She said: “The old round pounds will be worthless when they cease to be legal tender but, for Barnardo’s, they are hidden treasures, as every pound will help it continue its vital work supporting disadvantaged children.”
Research suggests the living room is a good place to start looking, as the average Brit finds £3.27 a year down the back of the sofa alone.
Barnardo’s Scotland director Martin Crewe added: “We work to transform the lives of the country’s most vulnerable children and, every year, we help thousands of families to build a better future.
“But we cannot do it without you. Every single one of the old round pounds you donate will really help to make a difference for every child supported by Barnardo’s Scotland.”
