BOARD games enthusiasts can put their skills to the test at a new club in Barrhead.

The Market Place Community Hub at the town’s Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire (VAER) base is opening its doors for a weekly board-gaming get-together.

Sessions at the recently-rebranded offices offer various family favourites, including Cluedo, Monopoly and Snakes and Ladders.

Suitable for little ones, as well as mums and dads, the board games group is the latest in a number of regular community activities that also include a sci-fi group meet-up and the Diane Mitchell Music School.

Francesca McKay, community arts hub development worker at VAER, told the Barrhead News the new club was set up with both the younger and older generations in mind.

She said: “It’s open to anybody who is interested in making new friends and playing board games.

“We have loads on offer, everything from Monopoly to Scrabble, as well as group board games. It’s only in its second week and is open to men and women of all ages.

“We are rebranding our building as the Market Place Community Hub at Voluntary Action. It is where all our events, groups and community activities will take place.

“We will make the board games available from noon until 4pm every Thursday and people can come in for as long as they please between those hours.”

Anyone who would like to find out more about the board games club at the VAER offices is asked to email Francesca.McKay@va-er.org.uk or call the centre on 0141 876 9555.
