A JOHNSTONE woman has been conned out of £7,000 in a phishing scam.
Police are warning people of the dangers of giving out bank information over the phone following the incident, which happened on Friday, October 13.
The woman received a phone call pretending to be from a company she had previously bought software from.
The scammers guided her through websites online and asked for passwords along the way.
She then realised she had been conned and that £7,000 had been taken from her account.
Sergeant Geoff Smith who is based at Renfrew Police Station said: "We would like to remind people in Renfrewshire of online safety.
"Do not give passwords or bank details to people over the phone or online.
"Anyone can fall victim to this and unfortunately in this incident a woman in Johnstone had £7,000 taken from her.
"Anyone with information should contact police on 101."
