HOUSE prices in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire are on the up and up.

Figures released by the Registers of Scotland show that average property costs in both areas in August were higher than for the same month in 2016.

The rise is in line with national statistics, which reveal the price of the average Scottish home increased to £146,354.

Homebuyers in Renfrewshire paid 6.2 per cent more for a property than the previous year, with the average cost standing at £122,549.

And those who bought a property in East Renfrewshire forked out 1.4 per cent more compared to 2016, paying an average of £219,437.

Average price increases were recorded in 28 of Scotland’s 32 local authorities.

The biggest hike was in the City of Edinburgh, where the average cost went up by 10.4 per cent to £246,611.

The largest decreases were in Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City, where prices fell by 5.7 per cent to £188,876 and by 4.8 per cent to £167,903 respectively.

House prices for the UK as a whole also went up during that period.

The average cost of a UK home stood at £225,956.

This represents an increase of 5 per cent.

Charles Keegan, Registers of Scotland registration and transformation director, said: “Average prices in Scotland continued their upward trend in August, with an increase of 3.9 per cent when compared to August 2016.”

He added: “Average prices have been steadily increasing each month since March 2016.”
