A JOHNSTONE councillor is to stage advice surgeries from a town centre supermarket.

Andy Doig, the independent member for Johnstone North, Kilbarchan, Howwood and Lochwinnoch, will meet shoppers at the Morrison’s store in Napier Street to listen to their concerns, as well as any ideas they have to improve local communities.

The former SNP stalwart said: “I am always looking for ways to connect with my constituents, using as many mediums as possible.

“I recently approached Morrison’s to see if I could host an advice surgery for constituents and they readily agreed.

“I am not claiming that this is a first as, a few years ago, local MPs and MSPs held surgeries in the store but, in recent years, there have been none.

“The management were very helpful and made the point to me that they are completely non-aligned as far as politics is concerned and would welcome enquires from other local councillors and parliamentarians who may wish to do the same as myself and hold an advice surgery in store.”

Councillor Doig already holds monthly surgeries at Johnstone Town Hall, at 6.30pm on the second Wednesday of each month.

Details of his surgeries at Morrison’s will be displayed on the store’s noticeboard.
