Ardencaple FC 2003s followed their good performance against league leaders Finnart last week with an impressive 2-0 win over Rutherglen last weekend.

Caple started the game well with Andrews in fine form in defence and Mullender and Milton being the dominant players in midfield.

Poor decision making in the final third was the only issue for Ardencaple in the early exchanges.

After 15 minutes Mullender created space for himself 25 yards from goal and fired a shot which seemed destined for the net, but the Rutherglen goalkeeper sprung to his right and managed to deflect the ball onto the inside of the post before a defender hacked the ball clear.

Encouraged by this, Ardencaple stepped up the pace and Evans was unlucky with a hooked shot which was just too high.

After 25 minutes Milton’s powerful run saw him burst clear of the Rutherglen defence and bear down on goal, but he took an extra touch which allowed the goalkeeper to narrow the angle and his shot was well blocked.

The breakthrough came just before half-time as a deep cross from Milton on the left deceived the goalkeeper and the ball dropped into the net at the back post.

The second half continued in the same manner with Ardencaple having the bulk of the play, Fulton and Evans came close to scoring.

Then a scorching free kick from Mullender was superbly turned round the post by the Rutherglen goalkeeper.

The home side secured the points when Evans created space for himself on the 18 yard line and his clipped drive was perfectly placed and weighted at the goalkeeper’s right hand post to make make it 2-0.
